“A Brand New Funky President”

The election of Barack and Michelle Obama to the highest office in North America is a time for celebration and rejoicing for all Americans of African descent living throughout the world. I believe it answers the age old question posed by people of faith whenever we are and have been confronted with the seemingly impossible: “Is there anything too hard for God?” It symbolizes the divine truth printed in the word of God that still rings true: "With God all things are possible." I feel and hear the souls and blood of all the American ancestors of African descent who were lynched, dismembered, raped, molested, stolen, not educated, miseducated, abused, oppressed, separated, breeded, assassinated, ignored, wrongly incarcerated, negatively stereotyped, held back, kept back, pushed to the back etc. crying out from heaven and from the ground “Our eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord, His truth is marching on, Glory Glory hallelujah." For four hundred and eighty nine years since the first slave ships arrived at the Jamestown River in 1619 from their grand theft of humanity, the African American has been the subject and object of cruelty, abuse, forced servitude etc. But today, we celebrate an exodus from the slave houses of ignorance and denigration to a position of power and authority. Yes the Cosbys of the 1980's were realistic and now they are the First Family of one of the historically most racists countries in the world towards persons of Color; in particular their brothers and sisters of African Descent. See what the Lord has done. The spook that once sat by the door is now the head of the most powerful country on the planet.

This election by the mixed multitude mostly those of European descent goes beyond belief in the natural world. This election, in my opinion surpasses the feeling of pride and encouragement I felt when Nelson Mandela was elected president of South Africa . You see there 90 percent of the land was Black South Africans.  Once finally given the opportunity to vote; there was no question that a Black human would be the president. However here in North America where African Americans comprise only a small fraction of the populace, we have to look to something cosmic to explain how this happened. Let us call it God, Jehovah, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. How did the image of everything demonic, satanic, evil, dirty, menacing, and fearful in all forms of American media, American history and societal acceptance for four hundred years become the perceived savior of a country whose economic, religious, social and international livelihood is spiraling down fast? One Name:God! There is no other logical or illogical explanation and I refuse to accept any suggestion other wise. It was God that has kept us through many of the horrid decisions of the first 43 presidents of these United States. It has been God who has thwarted the hand and attacks of our human adversaries in this land for years and years and IT WILL CONTINUE TO BE GOD, who keeps us. The election of Barack and Michelle Obama has answered the prayers of 20 generations of physically and psychologically enslaved Americans of African descent and provided the revelation of God found in Genesis 15 13 Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years."
